INTD310 Materials II: Fabrics, Textiles, & Soft Goods

Building upon the foundational knowledge gained in Interior Design Materials I, this course delves deeper into the exploration of soft surface materials crucial to interior design applications. Through a combination of theoretical study, practical experimentation, and real-world applications, students will investigate a wide array of soft surface materials, including textiles, upholstery, carpeting, rugs, and wall coverings. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the inherent characteristics, performance attributes, manufacturing processes, and sustainability implications of these materials. Through hands-on exercises, students will explore techniques for fabric analysis, textile manipulation, and surface treatment. Additionally, students will examine the relationship between soft surface materials and human comfort, acoustics, and visual aesthetics within interior environments. Case studies and guest lectures from industry professionals will provide insight into current trends, innovations, and best practices in the selection and application of soft surface materials. By the end of the course, students will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively integrate soft surface materials into interior design schemes that meet functional, aesthetic, and environmental objectives. (Prerequisite: INTD210) Spring. Cost Fee: $30.00
