ARCH301 Construction Materials and Methods

This course introduces students to the study of materials, systems, and methods used in contemporary construction, with an emphasis on their application to architectural design. Topics include the properties and performance of wood, concrete, steel, masonry, glass, and emerging sustainable materials. Students will explore how construction methods impact design decisions, functionality, cost, and environmental responsibility. Case studies and practical exercises will connect material knowledge to ongoing design work. This course is designed to be taken concurrently with ARCH300 – Architectural Design I to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between design and construction. (Prerequisites: INTD102, INTD201)
