Program Outcomes
Effective Thinking and Communication. Students will acquire a diverse set of skills and strategies in mathematical reasoning, problem solving, and communication. Through acquisition of these skills, students will develop mathematical independence, making proper use of mathematical notation and terminology, working creatively and self-sufficiently with mathematics, and persisting through difficult or otherwise non-routine mathematical problems.
Using Tools and Technology. Students will make proper and effective use of standard mathematical tools, techniques, and technologies.
Applying Mathematics and Mathematical Modeling. Students will investigate the relevance and applications of mathematics to other fields of study, allowing them to make connections across disciplines, link theory to applications, and gain experience with the mathematical modeling process.
Mathematical Breadth. Students will demonstrate an understanding of the core concepts, principles, and techniques of the standard undergraduate mathematics content, including: the traditional sequence in calculus and analytic geometry; linear algebra and matrices; as well as probability and statistics.
Mathematical Rigor and Proofs. Students will demonstrate the ability to read, understand, analyze, and create mathematical proofs.
Exploring Mathematics Beyond the Curriculum. Students will work, independently or in a small group, on a mathematical project that involves techniques or concepts beyond the content of a single course.
Presenting Mathematics. Students will demonstrate the ability to present mathematical topics verbally and in writing in a clear and professional manner to both experts and non-experts.
