SOCW309 Self-Care for Helpers and Healers
Self-care and mindfulness are essential components for a successful career in any helping profession. This course will provide guidelines and action plans for instilling practices of self-care in the areas of self-awareness, mindfulness/somatic experiencing, setting boundaries, relationship health, and recognizing signs of burnout. The class will be both reflective and interactive as we build self-awareness and share what works in applying self-care practices into daily life. We will identify how to use this foundation in times of personal, environmental, social, and relational stress as well. This class with be experiential, utilizing role-play, active movement, music, group activities, and art as tools for understanding the multiple ways to be mindful. We will learn how to integrate these skills into our daily lives and manage our own needs as helpers and healers, as well as understanding the importance of teaching others how to take care of themselves.
